Shopping and cute clothes and fun items in Second Life really do make it for me. It’s the ultimate Barbie, complete with dream house, glam convertible, even Malibu Ken/Kim. Luxe Box made that into this fun surprise social event; I’d get together with friends in the same room or in the Luxe Box group, squeal excitedly when our boxes arrived, and then gush and share pictures about the new outfits we’d put together. Luxe Box was great – it was like Christmas and Margarita night where I walked away each month with tons of cute clothes, shoes, hair, accessories, furniture, and even little pets.
Luxe Box officially announced this past week they were closing up shop after an almost two-year run. I felt like what better way to say goodbye to something that has been such a fun and fulfilling part of my Second Life than by taking a few pictures.
I’m wearing some jeans from Blueberry that were in the September 2016 box. I remember being SO excited that Blueberry was participating that month AND when it turned out to be this fantastic pair I was overjoyed. These were my go-to jeans for a long, long time, and I still wear them quite frequently. One of these days I’ll get some pictures shot that really show them off, beacuse they make my legs and my backside look fantastic. I’ve paired them with a cami from Foxes from the February 2016 box. This cami looks just cute AF with jeans, but I’ve worn it a lot with skirts and, occasionally, with just a pair of undies for some playful boudoir-ish pictures.
The shoes, however, are far and away the most worn item I’ve ever received from a Luxe Box. These wedges from Reign are super cute and I wear them at least twice a week, and since they come in literally dozens of textures they never get boring. For the first few pictures, I’m sitting in a cape wagon from Tarte – I believe this was in the November 2017 Luxe Box, but I’m not 100% certain on that. What I am certain about is it’s a wonderfully romantic spot to curl up with someone special…and if you’ve got more on your mind than curling up, well, Tarte has you covered there too.
It may sound a bit silly, but I’m going to miss Luxe Box so much. This wasn’t just an exciting monthly surprise of lots of cute clothes and such (although that was a big part of it), it was this neat community bound together by sharing our experiences with our common interest. That’s what I’ll miss the most. Adios, Luxe Box. Thanks for two wonderful years, countless outfits, hairs, and housing items, and a little Corgi named Simon.
So let’s not end on a down note – let’s end on one with a little promise for everyone who maybe didn’t participate in Luxe Box. While Luxe Box was going on, designers had to agree they would not sell anything they contributed to Luxe Box. Now that Luxe Box has turned out the lights, ALL of those cute clothes and hairs are fair game to be sold. I think we’re going to see an influx of some really great stuff available for the first time to folks who maybe never tried out Luxe Box, and that’s exciting! I’m happy for folks who maybe never got a chance to wear the best wedges on the grid or some truly magnificent jeans. That is a silver lining I can get behind.

So I’ve gone through some trials and tribulations with the Luxe Box over the past few months. November was a disappointment, December it was back on form, but January brings changes in Luxe Box, and I made a decision.
First off, the designers that participate in Luxe Box are all high quality, and nothing included in the subscription is ‘junk’. It’s just not for me. I want to make sure I make that part clear; Empire, Lamb, Moon, Ison, Foxes – all of them are quality and if their wares are your style, they’re very, very solid choices.
Luxe Box is making two big changes. Instead of the usual 12 items in each box, there will be 8 every month, and instead of the monthly rate of 1,500L to subscribe, it will set you back 1,000L to join the Luxe Box group. From a straight mathematical standpoint, that seems pretty fair, right? Lower the amount of items in the box by a third, lower the price by a third – all’s well. The thing is, fewer items means, say, two items that aren’t for me being the box being 25% “bad”. I’d rather pay the extra 500L and have a better chance of really enjoying my box rather than feeling disappointed at a quarter of my purchases.
So I made a decision. I made a small list of designers that have been in Luxe Box in the past. I’m going to check at the Luxe Box Boutique every month and if any of those designers are listed as participating, I’ll subscribe. If not, I’ll pass. I figure even one fat pack from Blueberry or Vinyl or any of the other designers on my list is worth 1,000L, and the rest is gravy, right?
What I’m Wearing:

So there’s another one of these like right below this, so I hope you check it out too, but let’s go! Today’s(being Monday, December 18) #SecondLifeChallenge from my hero, Strawberry Singh, goes something like this:
Here are the instructions for the #SecondLifeChallenge this week: Share a picture or video of a winter scene in Second Life. Tell us a bit about the location and/or what you are wearing.
Like Cary Elwes (who looked SO hot in this movie) said, “As you wish.”
I’m at the Garden of Whimsy Winter Wonderland, which has everything a winter explorer could desire – ice skating, snow, sleighs, beautiful trees and some wonderfully colorful and festive light displays. I spent the evening exploring and had a fantastic time.
I’m wearing a turtleneck sweater from the Paper Arrow, which came in the December Luxe Box! If you remember, the November box was something of a disappointment for me, but December has REALLY made up for it. I’m working on another set of pictures wearing some of my favorites from December, look for that post soon!
So after all that exploration in the cold while wearing a really, really weather-inappropriate denim miniskirt, I returned home to find my close friend, Danni, under the Christmas tree for a romantic cuddle. I don’t know that I can think of a better way to wrap up an evening spent exploring the winter wonderlands of Second Life.
What I’m wearing:
Sweater: Cozy Turtleneck by Paper Arrow Co (December 2017 Luxe Box)
Skirt: Denim Skirt by Blueberry (January 2017 Luxe Box)
Boots: Autumn by REIGN
Hair: Irenka by Truth
A month ago I raved about how I’ve never been disappointed by my monthly Luxe Box. I got up on my soap box and preached that it was always awesome, and always money well spent. I unboxed mine last night and…things changed.
Fair play, this is my personal opinion, and a lot of this might change if you live a different SL than I do. I imagine quite a few of us thought November’s box was the bee’s knees, and I’m really happy for you all! It just didn’t do it for me.
I want to start with the high notes though because there were a few bright spots.
My top and earrings are from Pretty Mess – while it’s a bit simple, I think the texturing is really lovely and it has a unique and alluring slit up either side. The earrings are very different and creative. I definitely will be wearing them. My hair is by Lamb, and I really love ponytails. The accompanying style HUD on the Lamb hair provides for a ponytail that hangs to either side or down the back at either shoulder length or down to mid-back. My only quibble is the hair makes my forehead look kind of gigantic, but adding these bangs from Truth addressed that fairly well. I could see this becoming a semi-regular hair for me.
And that’s it. I don’t want to point fingers or name names or get into details – if you want to chat that out with me in world, drop me an IM. Still, whether it was a lack of features, imagination, or just plain not being my style/fitting my needs, this Luxe Box didn’t deliver the way nearly every other Luxe Box has.
Will this drive me away from my monthly Luxe Box? Of course not! I’ll be right there on December 1 rejoining the group. No one succeeds 100% of the time, and I don’t mind riding along through a rough patch. I’d be willing to be December’s Luxe Box will be a real gem and this unfortunate misstep will be all but forgotten.
What I’m Wearing:
Top: Lily Split Tube by Pretty Mess (Luxe Box)
Jeans: DWL by Blueberry
Shoes: Kerria by #EMPIRE (Luxe Box)
Earrings: All-Seeing Earring by Pretty Mess (LuxeBox)
Where I’m Sitting:
Bench: Luxe Bench by Fancy Decor (LuxeBox)
I spend a lot of my Monday mornings just like this. My fingers poised above and hammering away at a keyboard, bottom lip wrenched to one side and bit down upon while noodling away at a thought or a problem, wishing I was dressed much like I am here, in something fun and comfy as opposed to…office-y.
On a more cheerful note, my Luxe Box arrived Sunday! If you’re not familiar with Luxe Box, think of it as a subscription Christmas (or the surprise gift holiday of your choice). One subscribes every month for 1500L, and, on the 15th, is delivered 10-12 items of clothing, footwear, hair, furniture, and fun knick-knacks. I’m never disappointed in this – the top I’m wearing is a fatpack that likely would have sold for about 800-1000L at a shopping event – I got it along with 11 other items for the bargain price of 1500L.
I know some folks don’t like the unknown element to the Luxe Box…what if you don’t get something you want? I suppose that’s a possibility, but I’ve been getting my monthly Luxe Box for 18 months now and it’s never let me down.
Today’s post features four of my favorite items from this month.
The top is a cute little sweater from Paper Arrow, which had me squee’ing gleefully the second I put it on. I love the style, I love the texture (I can practically FEEL the warm fabric against me), and the little heart cut-out is just playfully flirty in a way that makes me happy.
The socks are from NX-Nardcotix, and come in ten textures for either high or flat feet. I actually wear really similar socks for knocking around the house, so these popping up in my LB made me grin.
This hair is from Moon. If I’m honest, Moon hair isn’t always my favorite – it’s always incredible quality and includes a myriad of colors and ombres, but it’s just not quite ‘my style’…until today. This one is JUST RIGHT for me – I put it on Sunday morning around 1:00 AM SLT and haven’t taken it off since. The darker roots of the ombre with the really lovely blond just hit all the right notes for me, and it’s made me reconsider all of the Moon hairs in my inventory – maybe there’s one that really deserves a second look!
While one can’t really get a good look at it in this picture, I’m reclining on a wagon by Tarte (from the October Luxe Box, natch) that looks absolutely gorgeous. It’s got an amazing weathered wood texture that I can just feel as I imagine running my fingertips over it, the rough grain of the wood against my skin, the cool heads of the nails, darkened and maybe even slightly rusted with time. The lights strung around it are charming and very romantic, making it a perfect setting for the couple animations (both PG and not-so-PG rated) included. I’m sure I’ll use it for photos again soon.
Oh now come on, self, this little trademark is getting out of hand! (Although, let’s be fair, these little shorts are sexycute AF, right?)
